Success Stories

PO1 Holmes
I was lucky to be part of the Sea Caet community for 5 years. It has been one of the best commitments I’ve made. It shaped who I am today and gave me experiences I wouldn’t have had elsewhere. My favorite part of the program was the advanced trainings. At the top of my list are scuba diving and firefighting training in Texas. Staffing Recruit Training and Petty Officer Leadership Academy were also meaningful because they allowed me to broaden my skills, pass on knowledge to new recruits, and step into a leadership role. In addition to trainings, I have met people through the group that I know will be lifelong friends.Sea Cadets offers opportunities to learn from mistakes and develop skills that prepare participants for real-world challenges. The officers gave consistent guidance, helping me become a more effective leader.

I joined Sea Cadets when life seemed unstable and challenging. The Sea Cadets gave the structure, guidance, and support I needed to move forward. I developed greater discipline, leadership, and accountability. While attending advanced trainings, I earned my boat license, gaining valuable maritime skills and confidence. Attending the Master-at-Arms summer trainings was where I discovered my passion for military law enforcement and service. The program played a major role in shaping me and motivating me to pursue a future in the Navy. Thanks to the Sea Cadets, when I enlisted in the United States Navy, I was considered an E-3 Master-at-Arms, which would not have been possible without the program. I am preparing to report to the USS Gerald R. Ford. A journey that began with hardship ended with strength through discipline, resilience, and opportunity.

Sea Cadets provided a strong foundation for my personal and professional growth by offering leadership opportunities, meaningful challenges, and clear goals. Through the program, I developed lasting friendships, learned first aid, trained new recruits, and gained an understanding of flight fundamentals. I also developed a deep respect for our nation and its servicemen. This experience accelerated my professional development, for which I am grateful. If you are willing to invest your school breaks, you can have similar benefits. I am now enrolled at the Citadel and plan to become an officer in the US Navy.

I joined because I wanted to prepare myself for a career in the military. Though not the explicit purpose of the program, Sea Cadets is one of the best ways to become disciplined in the ways of duty. I've gained invaluable experience as a leader, in military customs and courtesies, and how to operate as a team. I've been to RT, EMS where I learned first aid and other valuable skills, and JAG, where I learned how the legal system works and how to conduct a court case. In the future, I plan to attend an Academy or attend a college that has ROTC with the intention of studying aerospace engineering. My ultimate goal is to be a pilot in the Navy,

The six years I spent in the USNSCC has been one of the most transformative chapters in my life. The advanced trainings I participated in gave me a step up after graduation, especially in the fields of medicine and engineering. The ability to travel around the country to learn lifelong skills from experts in their fields is a privilege I wish I could still take advantage of. The skills I learned in medicine helped me with a smooth transition into EMS. The memories I made and lifelong friendships was my favorite part of being a Sea Cadet. The USNSCC taught me how to be a leader and how to accomplish a common goal. The interpersonal and professional skills I gained because of sea cadets gave me an edge and prepared me for a successful transition into adulthood.Even after graduating from the USNSCC, the community has always been there for me. The connections I still have with Sea Cadets remain strong, even after years of separation.
Parent
This program has truly been a blessing for my son. He once struggled with self-esteem, but now he carries himself with confidence and pride. His teachers and family have all noticed how much he has grown—not just in confidence, but in the kind of person he has become. It’s difficult to fully understand the impact until you experience it firsthand. We initially hoped it would provide structure and help build his confidence, but it has far exceeded our expectations. The leadership skills these cadets develop are remarkable, and the opportunities my son has had over the past few years have been nothing short of incredible.Through the program, he has participated in trainings across the country, including Maryland, Texas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Wisconsin, and Alabama. Along the way, he has earned his boating license, obtained a SCUBA certification, experienced hands-on firefighter training, completed boatsmanship courses, and even participated in a marine shipbuilding program with General Dynamics. These experiences have broadened his perspective and given him skills and confidence well beyond what we ever imagined. The program builds a strong foundation for young men and women. It has helped him understand the value of hard work, develop a strong work ethic, and embrace responsibility, dedication, and kindness. Over time, I began to notice meaningful changes—he improved his communication skills, became more independent, and learned how to adapt in different situations. Most importantly, he has grown into a young man who genuinely respects and appreciates others.Throughout this journey, he has been guided by exceptional role models—leaders any parent would be grateful for. Their influence has played a significant role in shaping who he is today.I will always be grateful to the officers and mentors who have had such a lasting impact on his life. Without a doubt, this is a program worth exploring.
